China Is A Stabilizer And Power Source For Global Energy Transformation

International Business Daily reporter Bai Shujie. Against the backdrop of the interweaving of global climate change, energy security and scientific and technological innovation today, countries around the world are re-examining energy security, reshaping the energy pattern, accelerating the transformation to green and low-carbon, and a new growth path characterized by low-carbon development has become an important direction for world economic development. According to the International Energy Agency, global investment in the field of energy transformation has achieved unprecedented growth. In 2025, US$2.2 trillion will be invested in renewable energy, nuclear energy, power grid and electrification, and the world is about to enter a new electrical era.

What role has China played in this? Lu Junling, chief economist of the National Energy Administration, said that this year is the final year of China's "14th Five-Year Plan". Over the past five years, China has actively practiced the concept of green development, energy security has been strongly guaranteed, and energy transformation has achieved remarkable results. It has become the world's largest clean energy market. It has also contributed important strength to maintaining the stability of the global energy industry chain and supply chain.

Through a set of data, you can take a look at the hard power of China's energy transformation: in 2024, China's clean energy investment scale reached US$625 billion, accounting for 1/3 of the global share, and the production and sales of new energy vehicles, photovoltaics and wind power installed capacity ranked first in the world for ten consecutive years. China has built the world's largest and most complete new energy industry chain. At the same time, as an important contributor to the global green transformation, China has promoted the construction of a clean energy industry ecosystem for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and has carried out green energy project cooperation with more than 100 countries and regions, providing the world with more than 80% of photovoltaic modules and 70% of wind power equipment, becoming a stabilizer of the global clean energy production and supply chain.

In this process, Chinese clean energy companies have integrated into the global industrial chain with an open attitude, contributing to jointly building a green "Belt and Road" and achieving the global sustainable development goals.

In Indonesia, the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway Project, which China participated in the construction, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 330,000 tons; in Ethiopia, the Asia-Ring Road project undertaken by Chinese companies innovatively adopts all-region new energy facilities, intelligent induction street light systems, and rainwater resource recycling facilities during the construction period, and carefully designs wildlife ecological corridors to build a replicable new model of green development; in Saudi Arabia, the REPDO 4-AHK photovoltaic project is one of the important cooperation results of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative and Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030". After the project is completed, it will produce 3.1 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity every year to ensure the electricity demand of 750,000 residents in Medina, and will reduce the emissions of 3.1 million tons of carbon dioxide and 93,000 tons of sulfur dioxide every year, helping Saudi Arabia build a low-carbon and environmentally friendly economic system...

There are countless green practices like this. China firmly promotes win-win cooperation, and through continuous deepening cooperation with renewable energy projects in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and other regions, it provides a solid resource foundation for promoting the energy transformation and green and low-carbon development of the host country, winning high recognition and widespread praise from the international community, and injecting surging momentum into global sustainable development.

"Deepening international cooperation in clean energy is the general trend." Li Wei, chairman of Shandong Energy Group Co., Ltd., said that from the perspective of international development situation, the proportion of global clean electricity in 2024 is as high as 40.9%, marking the entry of a new stage of global energy transformation. More countries and regions will formulate stricter carbon emission targets and energy transformation plans, providing broad market space for the clean energy industry. However, the stability of policies of various countries, the difficulties in energy storage technology, and the increasingly fierce market competition and consumption problems need to be solved urgently.

Lu Junling believes that China should make greater efforts to accelerate the development of new clean energy technologies, promote technical cooperation and exchanges in the fields of green hydrogen energy, advanced energy storage, new generation nuclear energy, carbon capture, storage and utilization, actively explore opportunities for international clean energy project cooperation, and vigorously promote economic and trade cooperation in clean energy. At the same time, we must accelerate the deep integration of modern information technology and the energy industry, improve the efficiency of coordinated operation of the upstream and downstream of the energy industry chain, and promote the digital and intelligent iteration and upgrading of the clean energy industry. In addition, we must make full use of multilateral and bilateral energy cooperation mechanisms, strengthen interaction and coordination, jointly seek a path for green and sustainable development of global energy, and jointly maintain the stability and smooth flow of the global energy production and supply chain.

Wan Tao, deputy general manager of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, said that in recent years, Sinopec has signed cooperation agreements with Qatar Energy Company, Total France, etc. to jointly build a prosperous clean energy chain. In the future, Sinopec will continue to deepen trade cooperation with natural gas resource countries and oil and gas companies, and jointly promote the healthy development of the natural gas market. At the same time, we will further play the role of platforms such as Yipaike, Petrochemical Yimao, and Yijie to create a more professional display, promotion, service support and trade integration platform for global clean energy products, and promote the large-scale and high-quality development of clean energy trade.
