On September 16, the 2025 Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum opened in Kunming. More than 200 foreign representatives from 87 countries and international and regional organizations, 165 media and institutions attended the meeting. During this period, a number of sub-forums, ASEAN and China-Japan-Korea (10 3) media cooperation seminars will be held, and Chinese and foreign media guests will also conduct joint interview activities in Yunnan and other provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

Zheng Jianbang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He said that media from all countries should be good practitioners and promoters of the Silk Road spirit, and actively spread the civilization concept of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness; be good recorders and narrators of development achievements, and continue to report in-depth on the vivid practice of jointly building the "Belt and Road"; be good participants and promoters of mutual learning in civilizations, and use high-quality news works to enhance understanding, break barriers, and gather people's strength, so as to make the foundation for building a community with a shared future for mankind stronger.

Through four groups of photos, Wang Ning, Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, shared the first launch of the "Zhenghe" train of the China-Laos Railway, the organic rice cooperation demonstration project of Yunnan Province and Bali Province, the foreign young Vincent sets up a business in Kunming, and the Yunnan rescue team goes to Myanmar to carry out earthquake rescue, confirming that the "Belt and Road" is a road of win-win cooperation, benefiting the people, knowing each other, and watching and helping each other. He hopes that the media will tell more stories about the Silk Road and contribute media strength to the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Wang Gang, deputy director of the Central Propaganda Department, said that open cooperation is a historical trend, and mutual benefit and win-win situation are what people want. We hope that media from all countries will vigorously carry forward the spirit of the Silk Road, unite and cooperate, speak out together, and report in-depth on the latest progress and vivid practice of the "Belt and Road", so that the good voice can become the strongest voice, let the short stories witness the big era, let the big platforms generate strong supply, let new technologies empower new changes, and help all parties always work together and move forward steadily in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road".

Yu Shaoliang, president of People's Daily, said that together with the media in the countries that jointly build the "Belt and Road" to actively explore the establishment of a normalized media cooperation mechanism in a wide range of fields, multiple forms, and hope that media in various countries will build a solid foundation of trust; promote practical cooperation and open up a path of prosperity; deepen cultural exchanges, play the song of friendship, and gather more wisdom and strength for the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road".

Li Yang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport, said that he hopes the media will continue to pay attention to new progress in connectivity. We firmly believe that the road to jointly building a "Belt and Road" country will become wider and wider, the economy will become more prosperous, and the people's lives will become happier and happier.

Foreign guests reviewed the fruitful achievements made in the construction of the "Belt and Road" and their contribution to the prosperity and development of the world, and expressed that they would strengthen media exchanges and cooperation, play the role of a window bridge, and gather strength to work together to promote the high-quality development of the "Belt and Road".

At the opening ceremony, the leaders present awarded the winners of the second International Communication "Silk Road Award". Media representatives launched the "Belt and Road" Chinese and foreign media interview tour. The story of the Silk Road "Walking in the Great Road, Harmony and Combination" is divided into three chapters: mutual learning between civilizations, win-win cooperation, and mutual communication between the people. Programs such as "Showing Sails", "Bright Silk Road", and "Small and Beautiful" Warm Power" vividly tells the stories of exchanges and joint development among peoples of various countries.

Before the opening ceremony, the leaders attended the forum exhibition display. The results of jointly building the "Belt and Road" are displayed, and the cooperation results of jointly building the "Belt and Road" are presented in the form of pictures and texts and a diverse perspective; the "There is a life called Yunnan" experience hall, Asian flower capital, World Tea Source, Chinese Cloud Cafe and other parts attract guests from all over the world to immerse themselves in the experience and feel the unique charm of the South of Colorful Clouds.
