The reporter learned from the People's Bank of China today that in the first quarter of 2025, the transaction amount of Yunflash Payment and domestic UnionPay cooperation wallets in Cambodia's QR code increased by more than 2 times year-on-year, setting a record high. As an important achievement of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative, the role of China-Cambodia QR code payment interconnection project in strengthening personnel exchanges between the two countries and deepening economic and trade exchanges is becoming increasingly prominent.

Under the guidance of the People's Bank of China and the National Bank of Cambodia, UnionPay continues to deepen the construction of China-Cambodia cross-border payment networks and realizes the two-way implementation of cross-border QR code payment interconnection in Southeast Asia. In March 2025, UnionPay and the Cambodian Central Bank announced that the wallet products under the Cambodian payment system can be purchased on UnionPay's global QR code acceptance network and WeChat merchants in China, achieving two-way interconnection in Southeast Asia. Since March, in consumption scenarios such as catering, department stores, and tourism ticket sales in China, the transaction volume of its wallet products has continued to grow, and is gradually becoming a cross-border payment tool favored by Cambodian residents.

Since entering the Cambodian market in 2008, UnionPay has built a payment service system in Cambodia with a wide network coverage and diversified product integration. Almost all local merchants' POS terminals and 80% of ATMs support UnionPay card consumption and withdrawal. While continuing to improve the acceptance network, UnionPay's localization business development process has accelerated, and mainstream Cambodian banks have issued hundreds of thousands of UnionPay cards in total. With the implementation of interconnection and cooperation, Cambodian residents can also use familiar domestic wallet products to facilitate consumption locally and across borders.
